Between 1962 and 1968, Bernd-Peter Lange (b. 1943), studied English Studies, German Studies and comparative literature at Freie Universität Berlin, the University of Hamburg, and at Birkbeck College and University College at the University of London. He obtained his doctorate from FU Berlin for a thesis on the novels of Charles Dickens. Between 1969-1978 he taught English Literature and Cultural Studies. In 1978 he obtained his habilitation at the TU Braunschweig in English Literature with a thesis on genre theory and the English Enlightenment. Since 1983 he has held professorships in English Literature at TU Braunschweig, the University of Oldenburg and TU Magdeburg. Research on post-colonial Indian literature, 1996 et seq., visiting Professor in Mumbai; 2008 Emeritus Professorship at TU Magdeburg; 2008-2013 Visiting Professor at the University of Breslau/Wrocław. Numerous cultural and historical publications in the fields of literature and the history of chess.
