Jan-Hinnerk Antons, historian, was a doctoral fellow of the German National Academic Foundation from 2009 to 2013. In 2014, he completed his doctorate at the University of Hamburg with a dissertation entitled Zwischen nationaler Fixierung und pragmatischen Zukunftentwürfen – Ukrainische Displaced Persons in der britischen Zone (“Between National Fixation and Pragmatic Visions of the Future: Ukrainian Displaced Persons in the British Zone”), supervised by Professor Frank Golczewski and Professor Stefanie Schüler-Springorum. Since April 2014, he has worked as a research associate at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg. On 4 March 2025, he submitted his habilitation thesis, entitled Der Mensch und das Meer von Romantik bis Anthropozän. Eine Umweltgeschichte des Ostseetourismus (“Humans and the Sea from Romanticism to the Anthropocene: An Environmental History of Baltic Sea Tourism”).
