Karsten Brüggemann is Professor of Political and Social History at Tallinn University. His research focuses on the entangled histories of Russia and the Soviet Union with the region that now comprises the Baltic states, spanning from the 19th to the 21st century. He also has a strong interest in transnational history, as well as the histories of tourism, music, and sport. Currently, he is leading a research project on everyday life in the Estonian SSR. He serves as Chair of the Baltic Historical Commission and is co-editor of the Journal of East Central European Studies (Zeitschrift für Ostmitteleuropa-Forschung) and Research on Baltic History (Forschungen zur baltischen Geschichte).
