PD Dr. Tobias Weger, born in 1968 in Munich, trained as a translator for English and French, studied history and folklore at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and completed his Magister Artium in 1998. From 1998 to 2002 he worked as a research assistant at the City Archive of Munich, and between 2002 and 2004 as cultural advisor for Silesia at the Silesian Museum of Görlitz. From 2004 to 2018 he was a research assistant at the Federal Institute for Culture and History of the Germans in Eastern Europe (BKGE) in Oldenburg, gaining his PhD in 2006 at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, and completing his habilitation in 2015. Since 2018 he has been a research associate at the Institute for German Culture and History of Southeastern Europe (IKGS) at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, where he was awarded a habilitation in 2019 (Venia legendi for Modern and Contemporary as well as Eastern European History).
Current research projects: Culture and History of Germans in and from Dobrudja since 1840; The Southeast German Cultural Work (SOKW) in Munich in the Context of German Southeast Research; Small Urban History of Timisoara/Timișoara/Temesvár (with Konrad Gündisch).
