Text
The collection of the Silesian Museum is divided into eleven sections: The numismatics section comprises around 3,000 objects, including coins, medals, and banknotes. The memorabilia section houses material testaments from Silesia’s past, all of them reflecting various aspects of the politics, economics, culture, and daily life of the region. The collection entitled "Erinnerung an Flucht und Vertreibung" (Memories of flight and expulsion) contains various simple everyday objects that displaced people carried with them on their travels, as well as 100 memoirs, and a number of diary entries and audio recordings. Paintings, graphic prints, and illustrations form part of the collection “Ältere Kunst” (Older Art; 18th – 19th century) or the collection “Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts” (20th Century Art ). Furthermore, the Silesian Museum is home to over 200 reverse glass paintings. Further arts and crafts can be found in the collections “Edle und unedle Metalle” (Precious and Common Metals), “Glas” (Glassware), and “Keramik and Porzellan” (Ceramics and Porcelain). The photo collection houses all of the museum’s photographic material as well as anything that emerges during reproduction photography or the documentation of the museum's own work. The library contains a wide range of literature about Silesia. It contains around 45,000 items and is also open, by arrangement, to interested visitors.
