Writing a page every morning can be a good exercise. Forming a sentence that aptly describes oneself is somewhat different, but is also a good practice. Both exercises can help to clarify, demonstrate, and strengthen something in us. Confidence grows, inwardly and outwardly. That is what the writing workshop with Thomas Perle is capable of. One of the things. It also takes us deep into the heart of Europe, to the Carpathians, and the stories of the people who live there, including the author himself. The writing workshop is accompanied by the Cultural Advisor for Transylvania.
Text
The Carpathians are beautiful, high and wild, full of ridges and precipices. You can lose yourself in them like in a thicket or jungle or fall in love on their mountain trails. They inscribe themselves into people's lives, like markings on the skin. In this writing workshop, Thomas Perle talks about his native country and, in the same breath, asks about the places and regions that others call home. As he puts it:
"Who we are today, we owe to those who were there before us. They are part of history, just as we write future history today through our own biographies and deeds. We want to explore biographies, get down to our own roots, search for stories, write stories. What does home mean, what does family mean? Which cultural roots lie buried, and which will reveal themselves? What stories can be spun or reinvented?"
In searching for traces, he says, we can find both pleasure and responsibility. Writing like this can take many forms: prose, drama, poetry. But in every case, Perle continues, it means "learning from the past, illuminating dark corners of history, internalizing bright moments for a future where, whether analog or digital, there is no room for hatred.”
The workshop has been designed as a project day, aimed at schools (secondary levels 1 and 2) and youth organizations. It is offered in cooperation with the Cultural Advisor, who provides support for the event. The workshop can be offered as a half-day or full-day event.
