In these regularly held readings, the Cultural Advisor for Russian-Germans delves into the cultural heritage of the Russian-Germans in contemporary literature and their literary heritage in contemporary culture. The focus is on works by authors who deal with unique motifs from the experiential worlds of the Russian-Germans and thereby explore a variety of intercultural and historical facets.

Over decades, the forced loss of language, taboos in the Soviet Union, and a lack of connections to the German-speaking West led to the gradual loss of Russian-German voices. In contrast to the literature of other groups of German repatriates, especially the Germans from Romania, the authors and motifs of the Russian-German spectrum were all but lost to obscurity. From a contemporary perspective, however, they offer a unique blend of cultures and historical and social contexts. A young generation of authors has now begun to recognize these exciting motifs for themselves and to explore them in their works in a way that is appealing to a broad audience. Questions of belonging and foreignness as well as trans-generational trauma management are playing an increasingly important role.
