Touring exhibition Man, Nature and Their Disasters
Historical photographs from Bohemia from the Scheufler Collection
Climate change and its consequences are the subject of much political and social debate. However, natural disasters have also occurred in the past and their consequences have often been catastrophic for people. To encourage reflection, the exhibition shows historical photographs from the period 1870-1918 from the Scheufler Collection of natural disasters in various Czech regions. Renowned photographers of the time, such as Rudolf Bruner-Dvořák and František Krátký, captured the effects of wind, water and fire. Prague's Charles Bridge, partially collapsed by floods in 1890, can be seen, as can houses damaged by landslides in the Krkonoše Mountains or the damage caused by open-pit mining in Brüx/Most. The role of man is critically assessed and considered in the context of current climate change.
