More than 110 million people were forced to flee their homes in 2023. More people are affected by flight and displacement today than ever before.
They include Ukrainians whose homes have been attacked and destroyed by Russian aggression, as well as Russians who have raised their voices against Putin's regime and this war and now fear for their lives.
Photographer Frank Gaudlitz, historian Paulus Adelsgruber and journalist Angelina Davydova met refugees in the Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Armenia and captured their stories in interviews and impressive portraits. The photographs make the refugees appear real and immediate. Each quote, each portrait tells of a unique fate.
The portrait photos of refugees and the interior shots of their accommodation, supplemented by quotes from the interviews, are presented in an exhibition. A publication will accompany the exhibition in 2024.
