The series is published jointly by the Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe (HI), the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) and the Collegium Carolinum with the support of the Bavarian State Library (BSB). Its scientific quality is guaranteed, among other things, by a peer review process of the online texts, which is led by an editorial board made up of scientists from the participating research institutions. The open access publications are available worldwide free of charge and are archived for the long term by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. A full-text search function is available and all volumes are published on the online platform "OstDok - Osteuropa-Dokumente online".
