Text
This literary project focuses on the ambivalences and asymmetries of the Enlightenment using the example of the historical Baltic States (Estonia, Livonia, Courland). Based on a media-historical-praxeological approach, the specifics of the Baltic Enlightenment and, in particular, the tensions and asymmetries of the Enlightenment project are presented using concrete case studies (media, actors, addressees, educational practices). In cooperation with the University of Tartu (esp. German Studies, Comparative Literature and History) and other partners from the Baltic States (Tallinn, Riga, Kaunas) as well as from Germany (Potsdam and Göttingen, among others), three volumes are being prepared: "Medien der Aufklärung. Enlightenment of the Media. The Baltic Enlightenment in the European Context", as well as "Baltic Educational History(s)" and "Baltic Narrative and Life Worlds". This will establish a Baltic focus in the BKGE series, making the Baltic Enlightenment more visible within German-language Enlightenment research as well as within Germanist research on Eastern Europe.
