For almost a decade and with more than 60 events to date, the public lectures and readings at the Marburg Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe have been a regular feature of the event program. They make the history, regional studies, literature and culture of East Central Europe vivid and tangible and often present the results of current research.

The lecture and readings program at the Herder Institute covers a broad and diverse spectrum: from the presentation of current publications to music performances and fictional topics, these events have been offering insights into the history and culture of East Central Europe since 2012. They are often planned to coincide with important anniversaries of significant historical events. Many renowned authors and scientists have already presented their work and research topics here. The lectures also offer an opportunity for the Herder Institute's own staff to present material related to the Institute's specialist research areas that they have a personal affinity to, or to present festivals and holidays celebrated throughout the year in an East Central European context. The events, advertised though flyers and posters, are aimed at the general public, specifically those interested in the Marburg-Giessen region. The readings are held at the Institute and accompanied by exhibitions from the display cabinets and presentations of items from the scientific library or the collections.
