The Cultural Center of East Prussia, an institution of the East Prussian Cultural Foundation, was established in 1981 in Ellingen Castle, the former seat of the provincial commander of the Teutonic Order of the Bailiwick of Franconia. The Center deals with the origins of East Prussia, the foundations of which were laid by the Teutonic Order in the 13th century. Located in the west wing of this magnificent baroque castle, its collections have been continuously expanded over the years and are presented in various exhibitions and housed in the archive and library. Also on offer are various events, publications and an educational program for young and old, which give visitors an up-close and personal experience of the history, culture and heritage of this mysterious and intriguing land on the shores of the Baltic Sea.

In addition, the Center maintains close contact with Polish, Russian and Lithuanian cultural institutions, which is reflected, among other things, in a program of joint events. In this way, it continues to make a valuable contribution to the work of preserving and communicating East Prussian cultural heritage.
The Center also hosts a permanent as well as various specialized exhibitions, which are always met with lively interest. Presented in a bilingual format, these events take place in the unique country they shed light on, which is today divided between Poland, Russia and Lithuania, and also help to bring locals closer to the history of their homeland. In this way, the East Prussia Cultural Center also plays a role in fostering a deeper understanding between Germany and its eastern neighbors.
