The Martin Opitz Library (MOB) is the central library for German culture and history in Eastern Europe. It collects literature from all areas of East-Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. The main focus of the collections is on the regions that today form western Poland and the Kaliningrad region – the historical East Germany.
The Martin Opitz Library (MOB) collects written records of the history and culture of the Germans across the entire area of Eastern Europe and makes them available both on site and digitally.
 
In addition, the library operates the Union Catalogue for Eastern Europe ("Verbundkatalog östliches Europa", abbreviated as VOE), which lists the holdings of more than thirty libraries and cultural studies institutions in Germany,

The country has been a member of the EU since 01.05.2004.

As an infrastructural institution, the MOB also regularly carries out projects with library and library science content. A further focus is on digitization projects, which are implemented by the library and/or in cooperation with partner institutions.
